While portion control is important, it is also okay to cut yourself some slack a few times. - Not only are apples good for health, they're also known to be a dieter's dream food. This is because the antioxidants present in apples help prevent metabolic syndrome — the extra fat around your stomach. Snack in-between meals with apples instead of unhealthy junk food.

- Have a hearty breakfast of oats — packed with fibre, they're healthy and low cal — making them perfect for those on a diet.

- Beans contain protein and fibre and it takes time to digest them, which in turn, will keep you full for longer.

- Have a sweet tooth but shudder with horror at the calories that sweet treats contain? Switch to dark chocolate. Healthier than any other type of chocolate, it will at least keep those cravings away.
